Brutal Legend 2 "more possible" if Psychonauts sequel is a success

25/12/2015 16:22

The problem with Kickstarter is that it makes people think that "millions" is simply too much and they are doing super fine (see what i did there?)....
In reality a studio like Double Fine needs much more money to survive... Heck, if you earn DOUBLE of what the game you made cost you then all you managed was to finance your next game which has to be the same size than your current game (so you cant even aim bigger next time), and if that game is not a great success or simply breaks even then youre back at ground zero.
Many Indie studios expect their successes to earn as much as 7-10 times the cost of their game, just so you can either scale up with your next project or get a cushion for the next 5 projects, and because not every single game you make is gonna sell like pancakes.
The business side of Indie Gaming is hard pal.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Half-Life 3 and more appear in SteamDB list

21/12/2015 16:15

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, Guilty gear would be welcome additions, and some much needed more modern FF's that are tied XIII. Right now all we got otherwise is hybrid FF-Type 0 which is fun, but is a Final Fantasy game in the same way the MGr Revengence is a Metal Gear game.

Also there have been a couple of hints a have been pointing at HL3 lately, and sure this has happened in the past, but I am actually leaning towards these having substance this time. The main reason is timing imo, we all have seen how much Valve has made a push into living rooms, steam link, steam controller (I love it btw!) and SteamOS /Steam Machines are all small things in support of this goal. I thing they are now just waiting on their next big toy to drop in the HTC Vive, (Supposedly doing a limited launch this year, but not much time left for that!) I could see HL 3 being announced a not an exclusive but having strong VR support as the final tent leg. Also source 2 is nearing maturity, it just seems like too many dominos are dropping in a row for this to be unreleated

Fallout 4 patch reportedly breaks mod support

19/12/2015 15:24

Seems pretty intentional- I say that because another thing that changed with yesterday's update is that the "data files" list is gone, this was a launcher menu item in most other Bethesda games- in Fallout 4 Bethesda hid it and you had to click on the bright spot below the helmet's right eye on the launcher. The "data files" utility was still there, but hidden. Now it is gone. The user community reacted to the changes yesterday by immediately finding a workaround, but what is Bethesda up to? This has been a year of catastrophic failed launches and blatant customer abuse in the video gaming industry (Batman, Star Wars BF just to name a few)- is Bethesda jumping on the 'screw the customer' bandwagon? This industry needs to start doing things right again. Here's hoping that Bethesda, unlike EA or WB, remembers that it is loyal customers that keep this industry afloat. We don't invest thousands in gaming PC's to watch our games get worse and worse with fewer features. And as a side rant: the stunt that Harmonix just tried to pull by foisting a broken version of RB3 with fewer features on us and calling it RB4- yeah that's the kind of thing we are getting pretty tired of out here.

DiRT Rally leaves Early Access

17/12/2015 15:20

It's the dark souls of racing games, and that says a lot both about its quality and the ungodly amount of frustration it will cause you.

The game is amazing, the driving model is superb (much better after they fixed tarmac grip), the AI in Hillclimb and Rally will make you struggle for a long time to get good enough (RX could use some work), and rising through the ranks will be quite an achievement due to how challenging it is and how long it will take.

That being said, I just wish they had created a more fleshed out campaign and focused a bit more on creating an atmosphere like the old Colin Mcrae games created. The game feels a bit sterile even for codemasters (usually) minimalistic style. The physics are amazingly simulated, but the whole atmosphere of a rallying/motorsport event is simply not there. Each event feels disconnected from the other and the little touches that help you immerse yourself in a game like this are simply not there at all besides the amazing handling model.

All of Overwatch's post-launch maps and heroes will be free

"Game is still junk"

Missed the part where it was out to still be anything but...well unreleased/hype train/closed beta. You just sound like a jaded hater man. Take a chill pill and relax. Don't even try to spout some nonsense how you played the beta and it was so trash, and it lacked content. Its a beta for the most part its suppose to be trash because you're weeding out bugs, its suppose to be lacking in content both to not ruin the full experience, and to focus on certain elements, maps, or characters . These aren't demos they are test. Usually focused test and there are many twitch, redditers, and youtubers with a different opinion.

"no singleplayer, not free to play, microtransactions, no character development"

Pulled that one from another comment of yours. All Im gonna say is Team Fortress 2. Similar "limited amount of maps, cartoon shooter" design. Came out in '07 at a $20 entry fee or $60 with the Orange Box. Its 2015 and the game is still running strong with micros and all. Now of course this game didn't release as the monster it is today. It had to build and grow. Its started off pretty simple, no single player, not free to play, and no character development. There's your proof of concept. This isnt some blind blizzard love, I'm actually extremely indifferent toward them as a cooperation; because at the end of the day they dont have the consumers best interest at heart. My only interest in Overwatch is in fact due to how similar it is to Team Fortress, and the hundreds of hours of fun I had on it with friends. But I had to call a hater on being just that, a hater, for no real reason. Let the thing come out and be trash then talk about how trash it is, because it very well might be trash. You talking like you're inside the development right now and you know all the details.

Corsair designs a low-profile liquid cooler for Mini-ITX builds

13/12/2015 15:15

Swiftech for me please! Where the system can be entirely customized to support additional liquid cooled components such as graphics cards and/or additional radiator(s) ECT. I had the H100i GTX and it was crap just like this H5 SF is, that by the way won't fit in to any mini case out there so be ready to have to get a Corsair case made to fit the small radiator to port the air out of the case. You will also have to go over to low profile ram, I see lots of problems with the H5 SF like the heat exchange tubing and side of the radiator will be right up next to your video card. I'll keep my Swiftech cooling I have on my mini setup any day of the week over this H5 SF Corsair unit.

The Division beta pushed back to 2016

11/12/2015 15:13

While you guys make solid points with Ubisoft's previous games - you also have to keep in mind which Ubisoft Studio was behind those games. Ubisoft Massive has had nothing to do with any past titles such as Watch Dogs / Assassin's Creed Franchise. So I truly think that this title has nothing to do with previous attempts.

As for Beta - since this is an "online always" title the beta is primarily to test servers as opposed to any other major game changing mechanics besides the odd bug here and there.

I don't think we need to worry about another delay. Plus one beautiful thing about these Beta's is that we get very early feedback about how the game is shaping up to be without really plunking down cash before hand. With things like Twitch / Youtube / Detailed reviews in progress, we have more information at our disposal than ever before to decide whether a game is worth our time and money.

I'm just hoping for another solid addition to the 2016 games lineup.

Star Wars Battlefront may lack "depth," EA exec admits

10/12/2015 15:10

Does he think kids are stupid? I and my siblings grew up on complex strategy games; Civilization, Zoo/Rollercoaster tycoon, Supreme Commander, Sid Meier's Railroads. Every kid these days has played the heck out of Minecraft, which is a vastly more complex game than any shooter! It's common knowledge that there are far too many 8 year-olds in CoD!

EA battlefront is what happens when a bunch of wrinkly old executives who have never touched a joystick in their crusty, greed-filled, joyless lives are allowed to design a game.

It never pays to underestimate the intelligence of your customers, no matter their age. Even if people don't understand the deep intricacies of a game they can still enjoy it, and eventually may learn to master it and feel the better for the depth such complexity provides. The fact is that dumbing a game down to try and cater to a different demographic only results in a bad game for everyone; young and old, harcore and casual alike.

EA Battlefront is a corpse. They've put some very pretty paint on it, but that can't disguise the fact that it is still a corpse. A corpse that they are trying to sell to you for $120.

Ubisoft announces VR exclusive Eagle Flight

09/12/2015 15:06

vr is going nowhere fast, it's gonna be about as successful as the kinect and ps move were. When you release games like being an eagle flying around the environment that's really gonna bring gamers to your hardware. At the moment it appears the only real feasible gaming option would be a flight simulator because it'll be difficult to bridge the gap between needing a controller for shooters. You can do racing sims and what not but I can't see how vr will work with a shooter other than just acting like a screen for your eyes. If they let you look around then they have to tie the aiming mechanic to the look function which will ruin any real gunplay or aiming. And as far as I know no one has a solution for this. They basically need to make one thumb stick control movement and the other control the weapons orientation and your head will control your point of view, leaving all the other button layouts as they were originally and just changing what the right stick does. Even still I don't see this tech taking off in any other games aside from flight and racing

Here's the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt "Hearts of Stone" launch trailer

06/11/2015 18:55

OMG this looks soooo good!
Does anybody know if it's possible to play through this story if I already finished the campaign? I don't want to replay the whole thing just 'coz I think I only have one full playthrough left in me (it's a long game) and I want to save it for the second expansion (and with FO4 coming out in a month I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it anyway), but I also don't want to load the last save before the final battle - it's almost like rereading the last chapter of the book, just doesn't feel right. But I want to play this so bad! :)
